Take Our Kids to Work – forms home Oct.5; due Oct.13

The grade 9s received the forms for Take Our Kids To Work on Thursday near the end of period 7. If your child needs a form, please have them pick one up from the Guidance office next week. Forms are due back to Ms. Wong by Friday, October 13th.

Take Our Kids to Work is an experiential learning opportunity where grade 9 students get to see a work day first-hand. Students across all of Ontario and in many provinces and territories participate in this program. All of the grade 9s at St. Andrew’s are required to participate, whether they are attending work with a parent/guardian, family member or family friend, along with a classmate at another workplace, or with a community host.

Ms. Wong is in the process of arranging a community opportunity with local businesses. Spaces are extremely limited. If your child cannot attend your workplace for safety reasons, please try with classmates or family friends first. Students who cannot find a work site to visit must speak to Ms. Wong BEFORE OCTOBER 13th.

Safety Concerns, Fenn/York Mills

Toronto Police informed the school today of safety issues at the corner of Fenn and York Mills.  Firstly, students at the bus stop at that corner are gathered far too close to the curb.  They are also on occasion crossing the road diagonally with no regard to the street lights.  Yesterday, someone threw a glass bottle into the middle of the road and a car ran over it causing the bottle to shatter and glass to fly up.  Some students are also not following the direction of the school crossing guard.

Students from various schools use that bus stop.  We have spoken with our students regarding these issues and we will continue to monitor.  If your child uses this bus stop/intersection, we ask your support in addressing these issues at home as well.
