Parent Council Minutes, May 30th

St. Andrew’s Minutes May 30th^J 2018

Dear Parents,

Attached are the draft minutes from our last St. Andrew’s Parent Council meeting for this school year – May 30, 2018.  The next meeting is September 26, 2018.  We will hold Parent Council elections on this date.  Consider participating as a member of the Council, a voice during the meetings, or volunteer during events.

Thank you also for your support with the fundraising events – direct donation, pizza lunches, popcorn days, bake sales, and SPC card sales.  The funds raised enhanced curriculum and school experiences for our children – the Robotics Club, the PhysEd dance program, the music program, and the grade 8 and 9 graduations.  More cafeteria benches, supplies for the school garden, and art supplies for a school sculpture were purchased.

 Happy summer!

 Denise Vavaroutsos

Chair, St. Andrew’s JHS Parent Council

Cuts for Carley cancer fundraiser: Wednesday at 8:15a

Our annual Cuts for Carley has its final event of the year on Wednesday morning.  We’ll be gathering in the caf at 8:15am to watch as a group of students and Ms. Wong all cut their ponytails to be donated towards wigs for cancer patients.  Family members of the students donating their hair are welcome to attend.  Students and community members who cut and donated their hair separately this year are also invited to attend.

Later in the day during lunch, Mr. Della-Schiava will have his head shaved by a student.

All donations this year are being put towards Bladder Cancer research.  Donations can still be made online at http://convio.cancer.ca/goto/SAJHcuts2018

Monday June 25th-Gr. 8 & 9 Graduations; Early Dismissal

Our Grade 8 and Grade 9 Graduation ceremonies will be taking place on Monday, June 25th.  The Gr. 9 Ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in our cafetorium and is expected to run from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m.  The Gr. 8 ceremony will begin at 5:00 p.m. at Sir John A. Macdonald CI (at 2300 Pharmacy Avenue).  Due to preparations for the two ceremonies, all St. Andrew’s JHS students will be dismissed from school at 11:50 a.m. on the 25th.  For those students who need to remain at school, we will be running a supervised study hall in the library from 11:50 a.m. to the end of the school day at 3:11 p.m.  If staying, please remember to bring a lunch/drinks as the cafeteria is not available for purchasing food during the final week of school.

Gr. 9 students are to arrive back at St. Andrew’s no later than 1:30 p.m. and they are to assemble in the gymnasium.

Gr. 8 students are to arrive at Sir John A. Macdonald Collegiate by 4:15 p.m. and assemble in the cafeteria next to the auditorium where the ceremony will be held. Following the ceremony, students attending the reception are to proceed to Fantasy Farm, 50 Pottery Road.  Only those students who have already paid may attend the reception.  Dinner will be served at approximately 7/7:15 p.m. with a dance to follow.

Parents/guardians are to be at Fantasy Farm by 10:30 p.m. at the latest to pick up their child/children. Do NOT send Uber or taxis, as we will not allow them to leave without a parent present.
