‘Orange Shirt’ Day, Friday Sept. 29th

A reminder to St. Andrew’s JHS staff and students that tomorrow is ‘Orange Shirt’ day in support of Aboriginal reconciliation.

Gr. 7 Immunization Date Change

Due to the overlap with the gr. 7 Mono Cliffs excursions also occurring in December, the immunizations originally scheduled for Dec. 4th have been rescheduled for Monday, December 18th.  Please make the change on your school calendar.

Safety Concerns, Fenn/York Mills

Toronto Police informed the school today of safety issues at the corner of Fenn and York Mills.  Firstly, students at the bus stop at that corner are gathered far too close to the curb.  They are also on occasion crossing the road diagonally with no regard to the street lights.  Yesterday, someone threw a glass bottle into the middle of the road and a car ran over it causing the bottle to shatter and glass to fly up.  Some students are also not following the direction of the school crossing guard.

Students from various schools use that bus stop.  We have spoken with our students regarding these issues and we will continue to monitor.  If your child uses this bus stop/intersection, we ask your support in addressing these issues at home as well.

Parent Council Meeting, 6:45 p.m. tonight

This is a reminder that our first Parent Council meeting is tonight in the school library (2nd floor) at 6:45 p.m.  Council elections will take place at the meeting.  Positions include Co-chair(s), Treasurer, Secretary, Communications Coordinator, Activity Coordinator(s), and Caring & Safe schools parent rep.

Last year, the St. Andrew’s Parent Council directed parent and student fundraising dollars to enhance the students’ learning environment.  Fundraising dollars went to: computer and technology upgrades, music program upgrades, supplies for classrooms, clubs and the gym, fees for the science fair and math competitions, the graduation and school dances, and two park benches for the school.

Please consider becoming involved in the parent council and coming out to vote at the elections.

Thank you,

St. Andrew’s Parent Council

Curriculum Night, Wed., Sept. 27th

It is our understanding that some are still experiencing difficulty opening up the Curriculum Night flyer.  Here is all relevant information:

This evening is intended to provide an opportunity for parents/guardians to learn about their child’s program.  The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a welcoming address/program overview in our cafetorium.  At approximately 7 p.m., parents/guardians will proceed to the gym to meet teachers, pick up curriculum outlines and ask general course/program questions.  Please note that this is not meant to be a P/T interview with discussions regarding your child’s progress.

For Grade 9 parents: remain in the Cafetorium at 7 p.m. for some specific information about grade 9 provided by our guidance counsellor after which you will proceed to the gym.

Meet the Teacher Night – correction

Our apologies; there was an error on the original flyer that went out on a post last Friday. The first portion of the agenda that was outlined on the flyer (from 6:30-7:00 p.m.) is for all parents, grade 7, 8 and 9.  Parents of grade nine students are invited to remain in the cafeteria for more specific information that will be given by our guidance counsellor, Ms. Wong.
