Jan 18: secondary info night 

We hope that everyone is having a safe and restful time off so far. 

Our secondary info night has been rescheduled for Wednesday, January 18th, beginning at 6:30 p.m.. Students and families interested in learning more about grade 9 at SAJH are welcome to attend. 

Hear from students and staff what SAJH has to offer to start you into your secondary school program.


Activity Day: permission forms due tomorrow!

Just a gentle reminder that the permission forms are due back tomorrow (Wednesday, December 21) for our Activity Days. Students need to bring in their completed permission form and payment, and hand them in to the teacher leading their activity. The main office will NOT take student forms/money.

There are some activities with space still available. Please let us know if your child would like to participate in:

  • Improvedy Slam (improv and comedy workshops)
  • Game room (board games, role-playing games, tabletop games, etc)
  • Games (cottage games: ping pong, cards, scrabble, etc)
  • Bump Set Fore (mini golf and indoor volleyball)
  • Experienced Ski/Snowboard (travels to Mt. Saint Louis-Moonstone)

If your child will not be participating, please provide a signed note stating your child’s full name and homeroom, the two dates (January 26 and February 2) and the reason your child will be absent from school (appointments, training, travel, etc) for the days.

“Letter of Intent” forms for 8s and 9s

A letter was sent home on Friday asking for info from grade 8 and 9 students. We need to know your plans and thoughts for the upcoming high school year, where you are planning to go and where you have applied. It’s easiest to consider the letter in 3 steps (the three large boxes on the form):

  1. Planning to continue at SAJH (grade 8s) or proceed to York Mills CI (grade 9s);
  2. Attending your home high school – according to your home address; OR
  3. Applying for TDSB Optional Attendance, or outside of the TDSB.
    • If you’re filling box 3, also answer the last question; this tells us where you plan go in the situation that you don’t get placement offers.

Forms are due back to the school by January 13, though they can be handed in earlier.

Music By the Lake 2017

Music By The Lake (MBTL) is an eight day residential instrumental and vocal music camp for Toronto District School Board students in grades 6 – 8. It will take place Saturday, June 3 through to Saturday, June 10, 2017.

Music By The Lake is a life changing experience for many young musicians.  Their participation in MBTL continues to develop their appreciation of music, and their musicianship (from a week of playing and singing 4 hours a day, seeing professional performances every night, and performing for the entire camp in a small ensemble concert).  It also develops their ability to think critically and to work as part of a team.

Students who are eligible to attend MBTL include:

  • Instrumental students (band, strings, guitar and steel pan) in grades 6, 7, or 8 who are currently enrolled in their school instrumental program and have been for a minimum of one year,
  • Vocal students in grades 6, 7, or 8 who are currently a member of their school choir. In the absence of a school choir, interested students are welcome.

Scholarships are available – contact Ms. Cocco if you would like to request a scholarship application form.

Students are expected to remain in this program for the full duration, so please make sure there are no school conflicts.

Senior Strings cancelled for Dec. 16

Senor strings rehearsal is cancelled for today, Friday December 16.

Dec. 15th Secondary Info Night Postponed

Due to the current weather, we are postponing our Secondary Info Night originally scheduled for this evening.  New date yet to be determined.

Changes to lunch December 22nd

On Thursday, December 22nd the whole school will be having period 5 lunch (12:40-1:29 p.m.).  This will affect half the school and a bright coloured flyer will be given to those specific classes on Monday.  No classes will be cancelled due to this change; if your child has a class scheduled for period 5 they will attend that class during period 4 instead.  (This change does not affect our grade 9 students as they always have period 5 lunch.)
