Public Meetings re TDSB Junior High Review

Today our students were given a letter to take home regarding two public meetings to be held on October 17th and 20th from 7 to 9 p.m. in the York Mills CI Cafeteria concerning the junior high review currently taking place.  Please note that the meeting on the 20th is a repeat; choose the date most convenient for you.  The meetings will address accommodation pressures, boundary changes, and program pathways for students and how to best deal with these issues.

Raise Awareness about Residential Schools – Orange Shirt Day – September 30

Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013. It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools, and because it is an opportunity to set the stage for anti-racism and anti-bullying policies and so that the story of the residential schools is shared with new generations.

We welcome our students, staff and community to join in and wear an orange shirt this Friday.
