“Letter of Intent” forms – clarification

Many students and families have contacted me recently regarding the “Letter of Intent” form that went home last week.

We realize that many families are waiting on optional attendance applications and information from the various open house events that will take place in January. The information you provide on the form helps me to estimate where students will transition to, and the numbers of students going to each program/school; this information allows us to begin planning for the coming year. The formal acceptance of placements and offers will take place in February.

As such, we ask that families still fill out the form, to let me know how many schools/programs you are considering and/or applying for, or that you have questions!

Monocliff forms

Could parents of grade 7 students please ensure they return the permission form for the Monocliffs trip as soon as possible so we can determine the overall numbers for the three separate trips. Payments may be forwarded to the school in January. Thank you.

Lawrence Park: closed to optional attendance

We have been notified that Lawrence Park CI is closed for Optional Attendance for the upcoming year. Students can only attend Lawrence Park if their home address is in-district. You can check this on TDSB’s “Find Your School” page – http://www.tdsb.on.ca/Findyour/School/Byaddress.aspx

As such, any Optional Attendance forms requesting Lawrence Park CI will NOT be processed or accepted.

More than half of our Activity day offerings on February 5th and 18th are full. The following activities have limited space and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

*If the Activity your child is interested in is full, or the student is choosing not to participate please provide a note specifically indicating that your child is not attending school on Activity day (Feb 5th and 18th). Clarification re: Northern SS tour

Leading up to their secondary info night, Northern Secondary is hosting a tour of their school on the afternoon of January 15th. Due to space limitations, the tour is ONLY open to students who:

  1. are currently in grade 8 or 9;
  2. live in the Northern catchment area for regular secondary, commercial or technical programming (NOTE: prospective Gifted students who live in area can attend the tour); and,
  3. register with Ms. Wong for the tour.

There will be a separate event at a later date for all Gifted students who are placed via IPRC at Northern. Invitations will be extended to students once the IPRC placements have been offered.

Students who plan on applying to Northern via optional attendance cannot participate in the tour, but are welcome to attend the evening session with their parent/guardian.

Inclement weather update

Please note that although our classes will continue until our normal dismissal time at 3:11 p.m. due to the inclement weather and challenging road conditions we have asked our staff to cancel after school programs and are asking that students and staff vacate the building as soon as possible after school so they can begin their safe journey home. All Elementary and Secondary Athletic events have been cancelled today. Evening permits may run based on the discretion of the permit holders. More information is available on the TDSB website.

Pizza Lunch Volunteers Still Needed

Help!  We are very short on volunteers for the pizza lunch this Wednesday, December 10.  Programs like this can’t function without the generous assistance of parents willing to donate their time to make them a success.  Please email Amanda at acepler@rogers.com if you can help during the first (11:20 – 12:10) shift and/or second (12:15 – 1:00) shift.  Thanks!
