Many of you will have received the June 23, 2014 letter from Uton Robinson of the TDSB which was sent home on the second last day of school. For those who haven’t, a copy is attached.
The TDSB advises that, commencing in 2015-2016, Northern Secondary School’s Gifted Program will be capped at 120 students, with priority given to students from Forest Hill PS. Northern is the traditional pathway for St. Andrew’s students wishing to continue in the Gifted Program. However, St. Andrew’s students are not being offered a priority placement. In fact, no alternatives for St. Andrew’s students are spelled out in the letter.
This move has potential repercussions for individual students refused a Northern placement and also for those students accepted into Northern’s gifted program. Lower enrolment will likely result in a choice of fewer gifted courses, which can negatively affect students in the upper years when more electives are available.
Please join us on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. in the St. Andrew’s school library to discuss this matter and formulate a collective response. If you are unable to attend the meeting but wish to be kept informed of the group’s plans, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your full contact information including the name of your child.
