Reminder: blue “intent” forms due

Earlier in December, blue forms (“Letter of Intent”) were sent home with grade 8 and 9 students, asking where students are thinking of attending for their next school year. These forms are NOT final decision sheets; they provide me with basic information so that I know how to best follow up with each student regarding transitions and school/course decisions.

Please be sure to return the blue form to the school before you leave for the holiday break. The information on the forms is vital for planning and teaching purposes. I will be working closely with all grade 8 and 9 students in the coming months, facilitating school movement and training them on the course selection process.

Pizza Lunch Tomorrow

Just a reminder that there will be pizza lunch tomorrow (Wednesday).

SAJH helps the Philippines

While Typhoon Haiyan has left the media spotlight, its effects are still being felt across the Philippines and needs are great. The St. Andrew’s community has responded with care, donating $100 and over 7 bags of clothing, that will be taken directly to people in the heavily-affected region around Tacloban.

Donations are still welcome, especially toiletry items and monetary donations. Items can be dropped off with Ms. Wong.

Article in the Toronto Star:  After completing a trip to the devastated areas in the Philippines, Minister of International Development Christian Paradis said that Canada is extending the period of matching individual donations to December 23, 2013. He is urging Canadians to keep contributing to the aid effort for the stricken island nation and says the federal government will continue to match donations dollar-for-dollar. Paradis said the scale of the disaster is hard to take in. “It’s nearly impossible to comprehend and describe,” he said in a teleconference. “International humanitarian assistance is making a significant difference.”

50th Anniversary – Thank you

On behalf of the students, staff and parent council I would like to thank everyone for their support of the 50th Anniversary on Saturday. We had an excellent turn out of former students and staff, enjoyed some remarks from Premier Kathleen Wynne and other dignitaries as well as student/staff singing and dance performances.

Thank you to our local businesses and families for donating Silent Auction items and for volunteering their time during the day. If you were the successful bid and have been contacted by our parent volunteers you can pick up your item(s) from the office when you bring your payment in.

We will continue the sale of our commemorative bricks throughout the year to hopefully attain our goal of purchasing a mobile computer cart and 30 notebook computers to fill the cart.

We look forward to seeing many of you for our Music Night on Tuesday, December 10th at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5.00.

Please note that our December newsletter will be uploaded this Friday.
